A mollusk performs the four basic life functions needed to survive. The four life functions are eating and breathing, keeping body conditions stable, movement, and reproduction.
A mollusk performs the first basic life function of eating and breathing. A mollusk needs to eat to power the cells and give them energy. A mollusk breathes to supply oxygen to the cells. Gastropods eat by using their radula which is a flexible ribbon. Gastropods like slugs are herbivores, which means that they only eat plants. Some are carnivore that eat tiny animals that pass by. Bivalves obtain food differently then gastropods. To strain very little organisms bivalves have filter feeders, like sponges. Most of them are omnivores which mean that they eat both plants and animals. Now on to the last type of mollusk, which are cephalopods. Cephalopods eat food by using their muscular tentacles to crush prey down in to bits so they can eat it. They then use their beak to cut the food, and then use their radula to ram it down to the stomach. These animals are carnivores just like some gastropods.
