What are a Sponge's Adaptations to their Environment?
Sponges have many adaptations that they need in order to survive. They have to adapt to many new environments and have to be adapted to the environment they live in, in order to survive. An adaptation is a characteristic that helps an animal better survive in it's environment.
One adaptation sponges have is it's ability to survive in places where most animals wouldn't be able to survive in.
Sponges main adaptation is having spikes. It helps it survive by scaring away predators because their spikes are very sharp. If a predator comes close to a sponge, ready for a feast, the sponge fights back by poking them. Spikes are covered by the pores and are ready when they are needed. A sponge's spikes help support a sponge's body and help it stand straight up. Without their spikes, they wouldn't be able to catch prey, attack predators, or stand up straight!
Sponges have very good and strong structures so that helps them survive the depth of the water and all the water that they get in them. They have to have good body structure because without this, too much water through be flowing their body that they wouldn't be able to process. Even though these creatures cannot camouflage, their colorful color blend in with the ocean bed.
