1) Sponges have the special capability to re-grow any missing or damaged body parts. This means that if one is mashed , it can grow back the missing parts. This is highly important for survival and makes sponges one of the toughest creatures on earth. For reproduction, this organism can regenerate. Meaning if a sponge breaks of, it can form a new sponge.
2) There are almost 15,000 different species of sponges and every year, a new type of sponge is discovered, to add to the group. Of these 15000 species, only 6 can be sold in stores. The species that are sold in stores are actually only the skeleton of a real sponge.
